The Kalixan Allergy Prevention Concept includes the identification of risks and education of people at increased risk of allergy (babies, children and sensitive individuals). It describes the most important measures to prevent or alleviate allergic diseases.

Since enzymes are one of the main causes of allergies, the Kalixan prevention concept is essentially based on avoiding products containing enzymes (e.g. detergents and cleaning agents) and on reducing allergen exposure to enzymes (e.g. in mite excrement and in fungal spores and plant pollen) in the home. House dust mites (important representatives are Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae) are small arachnids that prefer to live in our mattresses, where they feed on skin scales. The excretions of dust mites contain to a large extent enzymes that are capable of damaging our skin protection and, in addition, trigger allergic reactions as proteins.
These enzymes are particularly aggressive because they directly attack the body's immune system. These proteases also impair other functions of the skin. The body has a system of locks (so-called "tight-junctions") on its skin surface between the skin cells, which allows substances to be exchanged with the environment.
Sluice gates (e.g. the protein occludin) prevent uncontrolled uptake of harmful substances or unintentional release of beneficial substances. In certain diseases - especially neurodermatitis - and in babies, the barrier function of the skin is significantly reduced. The enzymes mentioned above can cleave these floodgates.
The protective net thus becomes more permeable and can no longer fully perform its function. A wide variety of allergens can now enter the body unhindered and trigger an allergy. It is the enzymes in the mite excrement that are responsible for a house dust allergy and not the dust or the mite itself! As described below in the Kalixan prevention concept, the most important measure for allergy therapy is allergen avoidance.
How can dust mite allergens be avoided? House dust mites are mainly found in mattresses and upholstery. Exposure to mite enzymes in the sleeping area in particular can lead to rhinitis, asthma, eye itching, burning eyes and sleep disturbances. The most important measure involves shielding the body from these mite enzymes with mite-proof mattress encasings and mite-proof intermediate covers.
After careful analysis and our own testing, we have expanded our range to include the Prevent products. With proper care, these products guarantee consistent quality for at least 4 years and thus help to create a low-allergen sleeping environment, which in turn supports the healing process and creates the best conditions for healthy, restful sleep.
